INDIAN ISLAND, 1860 Swiftly the night has come Run as the rabbits run Flitting our feet bare Over shore there Flicker of firelight Watch from the waterside Sounding of glad feet Thick like heartbeats Voice of a mother sings Carries on fluttering Down to the shoreline I see a boat climb Great sight and noise Bird’s flight in poise Pale hands and face White sands red laced Hard light around Ignites the ground Can’t run, can’t hide No sun will rise None is the sound, none is the sound Comes from my brother’s mouth, turned to the ground Cold is the kiss, cold is the kiss, Comes from my mother’s lips, cold is the…

Tim McLean 01:23
TIM MCLEAN Morning on the rise End of summer time Ticket in my hand Alberta fair and grand Greyhound pulls away Bound for Winnipeg Prairies and the grass Forehead on the glass The shadow and the knife Come calmly in the night Take my face Take my life

BOSTON MOLASSES FLOOD (for Anthony di Stasio) Light—on a winter sun arise With an azure cold and bright And my sisters spin and stride The Bay—like a ship toward it stray In my mind to dance and sway But my feet, the street, they stay Sound—like a girdle pulled around Takes my breath and weighs me down Like a burden, like a crown Copp’s hill, horses drag their weight still Cobblestones and Paul Revere’s home Seagulls rise over Ironsides Shadow falls, molasses tank walls Loom—a sudden noise blooms Rooms—they collapse and consume Trapped like rats within Rail—Elevated from the gale Sees the city swim Face—I turn to meet the Grace And it takes me up within Light—in the Mercy, all’s right And it takes me home again Light—in the Mercy, all’s right And it takes me home again Light—in the Mercy, all’s right And it takes me home again Light—in the Mercy, all’s right And it takes me home again Light—in the Mercy, all’s right And it takes me home again
4.
HARTFORD CIRCUS FIRE (for Robert Dale Segee) Oh my God, the day is broad Awakened with a loud... Oh dear Lord, I can’t ignore Or mitigate the cloud Take my thoughts and take my vision Hold my body fast In the bathroom stall the siren Calls me out at last Oh, desire What inspired? Set my hand to Set the fire Man of red and threats envisioned Horses run me down History with slight revision Everything resounds All my heart’s addiction, dereliction Beaten brow Will I be abated, recreated Or allowed? Oh, desire What inspired? Set my hand to Set the fire
5.
JEAN-DOMINIQUE BAUBY (Locked-In Syndrome) Hope—what is the word? A broken believer God is only a word Invoked by a griever Life—what is your gown? The skirt of my window Death—where is your crown? The fold of my pillow Took my child, sweet and mild With his bags by the doorway If our voice finds rejoice We are glad for an old way In this light, every sight Takes the pallor of mourning Call it relief in the backseat Call it, briefly, a mooring
6.
SWAN SONG (for Chang and Eng) The Siamese twin who broke a limb The brother shed a tear A kindred host, a pest at most A parasite we fear Familiar head, a perfect bed To kiss and lay us down A shadow from the falling sun At times is like a sound The broken son, a paragon Familiar song to hear Like wire pulled, a breath annulled Familiar song, my dear At times it seems the rafter beams Are sudden seams of light And I, the swan, arise at dawn With lucid dreams of flight
7.
SEVENTH DAY (Luna Moth) I can’t believe in the sight Found you on the Sumac branch tonight Blooming like a fire in the tree Touched your wing, the ribbons green And tumbling Oh, the summer time Oh, the maritime Oh, the faulted flight Oh, the coming light Peace to thee, peace to thee Majesty, majesty Seventh day, seventh day, Giveth life and takes away
8.
(CODA - MY ONLY SUNSHINE) You are my Sunshine My only Sunshine You make me happy When skies are grey You'll never know, Dear How much I love you Please don't take my Sunshine away

about

OMNIA ONERA was written and recorded on an old 8-track machine in my college dorm room in the year 2009. Conceived of as a "disaster album," these songs were all inspired by historical tragedies, both large and small in scale. A fire at the circus... a flood of molasses sweeping through the city streets... a Greyhound bus beheading... these bizarre, tragic real-life events stirred my curiosity and imagination, as I hope they will yours.
