Bell Jar

Nickie Harte Kelly Northern Californian Zac Bauman is an adept guitarist, sometimes utilizing elaborate fingerpicking, He aptly describes his music as “baroque pop bedroom recordings.” The release is quirky, and, like the cover art with a heart floating in a bell jar, the lyrics are intimate musings, and although the strings are complex, overall, there is a naiveté to the songs. It includes a bit of recorded reading by the poet, e e cummings, of “somewhere I have never traveled,” on one of the tracks. Favorite track: Bell Jar.

mtrewseattle Play this on a long drive just at twilight. Beautiful surprises of horns and all manner of stringed goodies. Ok, maybe track 8 is my fav... Favorite track: Bell Jar.

OVER AND OVER Birds call me out, and I lower the muzzle from my snout If you’re over-shy, life will pass you by Then it’s over and over before you know Life makes a sound: You can hear it vibrating all around You don’t know the song, but hey, you’ll hum along ‘Cuz it’s over and over before you know Thoughts cross my mind that my body is rising all the time When I reach the sky, oh I don’t know why All is over and over is all I know

(NOTHING) LIKE A ROLLING STONE There's nothing like a rolling stone To make you glad that you've got love And the means of making it last Grin and bear it all inside Though you know that's not a cure But a means to get by Just look around you now If you want to see heaven This life is a beautiful something If you take it in stride There's nothing like a blooming sky Or burning bush to make it all clear And eliminate the I Take it as a lesson learned Take it slow, take it all in That happiness you've earned It's all around you now Keep your eyes and arms open to life It's a beautiful something If you give it a try

Soulmate 07:32
SOULMATE How I know it’s love: It grabs me by the ankle bones When I see that another standing right in front of me Is sharing half of my soul Well a night is long - but it’s longer in an empty home Put your face in my hands - it’s nothing but a wonder When we’re sharing half of our souls

Bell Jar 04:50
BELL JAR And so you shrug it off The burden of a darkening day Only to put it on And heap it higher every day You put the kettle on And let it boil o’er Can’t even turn it off Can’t even raise an arm And so you shrug it off That ever-nagging heartache And put a smile on By moving muscles under your face But Inner-Voice, it howls And paints the world a glimmering grey And though you know it’s wrong Can’t help but sing it anyway God is a hoax, is a lie, is a comfort for desperate lives Something is here, but it’s queer to conjecture it lectures on high Consider the grass that unfurls like a flag as the spirit moves past Moving in you, as it moves in me too, though it never can last

THIS LONESOME LIFE Say what you want--it's a lonesome life Cast out your demons, but they linger at your side All the world is waiting for that golden tunnel light To save us and erase us from this lonesome life Say what you want, and do what you will Cup runneth over with a lot of time to kill All the world’s an oyster, but I think I’ve had my fill The pearls are few and far, and I’m lonesome still

BELEGANJUR BLUES Praise the Creator who made you The Preserver who stayed you The Destroyer who laid you In your grave Soon flesh to ashes will flower Spirit rising from tower While my heart is devoured By beleganjur blues
9.
BLASPHEMER RAG Holy smokes, you’re such a holy roller! Got your bible-thumpin’ to a ‘T’ Pardon me, but I don’t need no threat of burning hell To lead a life of well-doing and peace... But that’s just me All my life I’ve been a lowly pauper But I never bothered to complain All the same, it rubs me wrong to see a moneyed throng Pretending all day long that they do right In His sight Holy Cow! Have I come down with fever? Such a cold blasphemer am I now And how! Carl Sagan is my revelations I see all creation as it stands: No guiding hand

BREATH OF LIFE A little breath of life That’s what you want It keeps you up at night When you remember it’s gone You’re out of helping hands Your heart is lower than dirt Are you a broken man, Or are you something of worth? A little breath of life It’s all you want One day you lift your head Only to find that it’s gone You can fight it, but you know it’s true All we have is breath of life to lose

STRANGER TO YOU Crawl out of bed and you’re already wishin’ That the night would come sooner than soon Always seem to find that your mind is tangle of troubles And your heart is a tangle of tunes When you look around and you’ve found that your life is a stranger to you How do you even begin? When you’re at the end of a road that has taken you nowhere Can you turn back and take it again? No... Love’s not what you make it out to be It’s not a hill to die on Give it everything you’ve got Or give it just enough to thrive on I’m not what you make me out to be I’m not a coat to try on Give me everything you’ve got Or just a cold shoulder to cry on And on...

WHILE ROME BURNS Every way I turn my head, I see the smoke of burning fires All my friends have come and gone, while I just sit and pick my lyre Tell me, tell me where we stand - Are we caught in a flaming pyre? Take me, take me by the hand - Are we lost in a loveless life? Oh heart, why do you beat for things that you’ll never know? Oh words, why do you fail to come when I need you most? Every time I lift my head, I feel the sting of wasted hours All my dreams are moving on, while I just sit, inhaling flowers Tell Me, Tell me what you can to alleviate desire Take me, take me by the hand - Lead me out of a loveless life Oh heart, why do you beat for things that you’ll never know? Oh words, why do you fail to come when I need you most?

THAT FAMILIAR FEELING Dark as a cloud billowing outward - inward Stark as a howl shuddering through the timber Form is a lie - What you are, you ain’t Death isn’t to die - Only a transformation Where can I go? Tell me, what can I say When this song is my only carriage?
